I began my career as a journalist because I wanted to tell stories that could bring needed social change. Then I earned a PhD in literature in order to better understand the connection between narrative and culture. As a college writing instructor I helped others find their voices, develop their ideas, and convincingly get their point across. Along the way I also became proficient at writing legislative and regulatory reports.
My work at a community college motivated me to dive into social advocacy through volunteer projects – including helping found a women’s shelter, tutoring at-risk students during the pandemic, and coordinating meals for the unhoused. Through further volunteer work I discovered I enjoy using my communications skills to help nonprofits achieve their goals. Today I write articles, social media content, and website material for several nonprofits covering a range of causes from wildlife conservation to adult literacy.
My goal is to use my skills and knowledge to directly advocate for social justice or humanitarian causes by helping mission-driven organizations tell stories with impact.
